The Pedestrian is another futuristically set book by Bradbury which is based on the year 2053. The time has shown to be changed where the streets are empty and dark while the people spend their times on their couch watching television. As Leonard Mead walks the streets examining the dreariness of the atmosphere, he wonders which television show the people voluntarily restricted within their houses must be watching. As Mead continues to walk, he is overwhelmed by a flashing light and a voice from the police calls him. Then begins a conversation between the police and Mead which continues to grill him of archetypical profiling questions probing him about his family status, profession, and what he was doing on the street. Finally, Mead is taken in by the police, who takes him to a Psychiatric Center for Research on Regressive Tendencies (Bradbury, 2). The Pit and The Pendulum written by Edgar Allan Poe is based during the time of the Spanish Inquisition and provides a fictitious yet i nsightful story about a man who is to be punished. Although the means of his punishment is not known but the story presents a remarkably virtual tour of how the man is first placed inside a dark well where nothing could be seen.
